VATRE 2026

A graphic promoting the VATRE 2026 Voter-Approval Tax Rate Election with early voting dates.

What is a VATRE?

A Voter-Approval Tax Rate Election (VATRE) is a local school funding election that asks voters to consider a district’s adopted tax rate. Unlike a school bond election, a VATRE does not create new debt. VATRE funding supports the district’s maintenance and operations budget, which funds the day-to-day operations of the school district.

Valley View ISD Proposition A

On November 3, 2026, Valley View ISD voters will vote FOR or AGAINST Proposition A.

Proposition A asks voters to approve Valley View ISD's adopted tax rate. The total tax rate is $0.87861 for every $100 of taxable property value.

The tax rate has two parts:

$0.7489 — Maintenance & Operations (M&O)
This money pays for the everyday costs of running our schools.

$0.1297 — Interest & Sinking (I&S)
This money is used to pay the District's bond debt.

Total Tax Rate: $0.8786

An infographic titled 'THE VATRE DIFFERENCE' compares tax rates with and without VATRE approval, showing a 5.98 cents difference.

What Will Be on the Ballot?

When you vote, you will see Valley View Independent School District – Proposition A on the ballot.

Voters will choose FOR or AGAINST Proposition A.

The proposition asks voters to approve the District’s total tax rate of $0.8786 per $100 of taxable property value. The official ballot is required to include the words “THIS IS A TAX INCREASE.”

FOR = A vote to approve Proposition A.
AGAINST = A vote against Proposition A.

What Happens if Proposition A Passes?

If voters approve Proposition A, Valley View ISD will use the $0.8786 total tax rate shown above.

More of the tax rate will go to Maintenance & Operations (M&O). M&O money pays for the everyday costs of running our schools, such as staff, classroom programs, utilities, transportation, and other operating expenses.

The I&S portion of the tax rate is used to pay the District’s bond debt.

What Happens if Proposition A Does Not Pass?

If Proposition A does not pass, Valley View ISD cannot use the tax rate that voters were asked to approve.

The District would have to use a lower M&O tax rate. M&O is the money used for the everyday costs of running our schools.

This means the District would have less local funding for day-to-day operating expenses.
