Under House Bill 1481, all students in grades Pre-K–12 are prohibited from using personal wireless communication devices at school unless the school/district provides the device.

All personal communication devices are prohibited from use during the school day. Students must follow campus procedures for storing personal devices during each class period. Violations may result in disciplinary action.

There are some exceptions if the device is:

• Necessary for implementation of the student’s individualized education program (IEP), a 504 plan, or a similar program or plan

• Required due to a documented need based on a directive from a qualified physician
