Bullying Awareness and Prevention
Bullying Policies & Procedures
Valley View ISD prohibits bullying, including cyberbullying, as defined by state law. Bullying is defined as a significant act or pattern of acts by one or more students directed at another student that exploits an imbalance of power. This behavior may result in physical harm, damage to property, or the creation of an intimidating, threatening, or abusive educational environment.
Bullying may occur through physical contact or electronic means. It can include behaviors such as threats, harassment, taunting, teasing, name-calling, spreading rumors, social exclusion, destruction of property, or other actions that negatively affect a student’s well-being.
Retaliation against any individual involved in reporting or participating in a bullying investigation is strictly prohibited.
Prevention and Education
Valley View ISD is committed to fostering a positive school culture where all students feel safe and supported. Students receive age-appropriate instruction on recognizing bullying behaviors, responding, and reporting concerns. The district also utilizes discussions and surveys to help prevent bullying and improve campus climate.
Reporting Procedures
Any student who believes they have experienced bullying or is aware of another student being bullied should report the incident immediately to a teacher, school counselor, principal, or other district employee.
- Reports may be made orally or in writing
- Anonymous reporting options are available through the district’s Dialogue AI anonymous tip line
- Any staff member receiving a report will ensure it is documented and forwarded to administration
Parents and guardians will be notified in accordance with state guidelines when a bullying report is made.
Investigation and Response
The campus principal or designee will conduct a prompt and thorough investigation of all reported bullying incidents. Interim steps may be taken to ensure student safety during the investigation process.
Unless there are extenuating circumstances, investigations are typically completed within ten district business days.
At the conclusion of the investigation:
- A determination will be made regarding whether bullying occurred
- Parents of all students involved will be notified
- A written report will be completed and submitted to the district administration
If bullying is confirmed, the district will take appropriate disciplinary action in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and may involve law enforcement when necessary.
Students who act in reasonable self-defense in response to bullying will not be subject to disciplinary action.
