Texas Senate Bill 569, passed in 2025, allows school districts to offer more flexible learning models. VISTA Learning Academy was created to give students more options, more flexibility, and a personalized path to success while continuing the strong educational standards of Valley View ISD.

Yes, VISTA students are considered full VVISD students.

Public school funding in Texas is based on student enrollment. Every student who enrolls in Valley View ISD, including those in VISTA Learning Academy, helps generate funding for the district. This funding comes from a combination of local property taxes and state support. As enrollment grows, funding increases without raising local tax rates.
Enrollment & Registration

VISTA Learning Academy is open to students in grades 9–12 in Valley View ISD and approved out-of-district students. Any student may apply; however, admission is based on an application and review process.

Yes. Students must complete an application and submit the required documents for review.

Students may enroll at the beginning of the school year or at the start of the second semester, based on availability.

There is no cost for students.

Students should complete the VISTA application and work with their campus counselor.

Yes. Students with IEPs or 504 plans may receive accommodations within the hybrid/virtual model. Special services are evaluated individually and tailored to student needs.

VISTA offers flexible learning options, including fully online or hybrid schedules, depending on student needs and course availability.

Schedule changes may be considered on a case-by-case basis and depend on timing, availability, and student progress.

Yes. Students may return to their home campus.
Academics & Courses

Course selection will vary for each student based on their individual schedule and needs. Students may take core courses online that are also offered in a traditional face-to-face setting, with options determined by availability and program guidelines.

Attendance is expected and monitored – students must engage in coursework regularly. Synchronous check-ins or required sessions may be scheduled, especially for core subjects and STAAR-tested areas.

Yes, students are still required to take all state-mandated STAAR/EOC assessments. Students must be on campus during testing.

Yes. Students enrolled in online core courses (math, science, ELAR, and social studies) will have assigned online teachers who provide scheduled virtual tutoring. Students taking courses on campus can also schedule tutoring directly with their teacher as needed.

VISTA students follow the same grading policies and district grading handbook standards as all Valley View ISD students.

Yes, all VISTA courses have the same GPA weight as in-person VVISD courses and follow the District’s curriculum.

Students must meet course requirements and earn a 70 or higher to receive credit for high school courses.

Progress reports and report cards are issued according to the district grading schedule.

Virtual labs are adapted for the virtual environment.
Student Experience & Support

Transportation is not. Parents or students must provide their own transportation for in-person classes or on-campus activities.

Students follow a flexible schedule that includes online coursework, teacher support, and time to work at their own pace.

Students connect with teachers through virtual meetings, messaging, and scheduled in-person and virtual support times. Teachers communicate through Edgenuity/Google Classroom and other platforms.

Students who are motivated, responsible, and able to manage their time independently tend to be most successful.

Students may have opportunities to participate in campus events, activities, and programs depending on their schedule.

Yes. VISTA students may participate in UIL activities and all other student organizations. Students must follow all coach/director rules, the Student Code of Conduct, and the UIL academic eligibility policy.

Students can connect through student organizations, school events, activities, and optional on-campus opportunities.

Parents can monitor progress, communicate with teachers, and stay informed through regular updates and district communication tools.
